Flashlight

I'm blinking a large bulb
right in the eye of my peers
letting them in on something
seen only by the eyes of the unwary

The Twilight looms in
a darkness not seen in centuries
a sentry tower looms in,
a bind of night and mortar
that is as tenable
as a hand rested upon
another

I want to show them
the impact that this has
but I'm just flashlighting
the issue a little too far

But I'd say that
they are just as guilty
I don't see what makes
flashlights so believable

I'm too into the dark
without this flashlight
but I'd rather hide
from the beam that glows
I don't believe in it
it flashlights my
negative feelings forward

And I'm turning it off
it doesn't have the power
to keep me invested in it
It is vapid and emotionless

But They'd say that
the flashlight is canon
to keeping yourself out of the dark
we all need to be together for this

The light blinks for mere seconds
a flash of luminescence
blinds the rest of the folk
I kept my eyes closed
fighting a overwhelming force
closing in on me
I can't accept the light
it's driving me in

I smash the flashlight
to the ground
it splits in two
who needs one for the other

and then it becomes
only a flash of thought
whisked far away from
my consciousness

my palms fall flat
on one another
this is how
you find your true love
I'm still throwing
away the remains
of that flashlight
as of today
keeping the pieces
apart from
being in peace
with one another.
